MPENDULO Public Primary School principal Ensor Lali, fired by the education department following more than a year of uncertainty, has appealed to MEC Mandla Makupula to review the decision.
The Rep reported (“Suspension baffles principal,” July 31 2015) that Lali indicated at the time that he was in the dark why he was suspended in June of the same year, as no charges had been provided.
In a subsequent report (“Team looks into funds claims,” August 28 2015) it was revealed that Mpendulo, KwaKomani Comprehensive School and St Theresa’s Primary were schools where teachers had called for departmental probes into procurement practices and the administration of the school nutrition programme.
Later (“Mpendulo awaits a decision on head,” February 26 2016) district director Nkosinathi Godlo said the case had been finalised and the office was awaiting an endorsement of the sanction by acting superintendent general Siza Netshilaphala.
In another report (“School in chaos as parents march,” March 11 2016) parents marched and burned tyres outside the school demanding the return of Lali, claiming he was removed without explanation.
This week Godlo confirmed Lali had been fired. “He exercised his right and appealed the decision.
“We can’t say when the MEC will finalise it.” Lali’s phone was unanswered and he did not respond to a voice message.
