Komani youths vie for ‘Great Presenter’ spot

THREE Komani youths are participating in the TLCNext Great PresenterSearch for a DStv style and network channel.

Rylee Hlakanipho Sakwe (pictured), Melissa Siyamthanda Matshikiza and Siya Mfenyana have their fingers crossed, hoping they will get enough votes to proceed to the semifinal. Voting has been done online.

Sakwe said the channel was scouting for presenters all across Africa and that 12 would be selected as semifinalists this week.

Sakwe, who matriculated from Queen’s College in 2008, said Matshikiza and Mfenyana were former Girls’ High School pupils.

After high school, Sakwe graduated with an honours degree in dramatic arts at Witwatersrand University.

“I am currently working as a freelance producer. I have two years in the media industry, thanks to a HyperLocal online channel called Johannesburg Today.TV, where I honed my presenting and producing skills.”

He was nervous during his presentation, he admits. “I have been presenting for two years but I was still nervous. I told myself that even if I do not make it through, I would remain one step ahead because I had conquered my fears.”

Should the three – or any one of them – make it to the next round, locals can vote for them on tlcnextgreatpresenter.dstv.com

“It would be nice to have the support of people from back home to realise our dreams.”
