TO say the Friends of Madeira fund-raiser known as the Chameleon Run was a colourful affair was really putting it mildly.

Ask any of the 437 people who took part on Saturday and they will tell you it was great fun being outdoors in such glorious spring weather and knowing that, thanks to the sponsors, all the funds raised went towards Madeira Home, while becoming thoroughly rainbow-coloured into the bargain.

For anyone who does not know, the Chameleon Run involves a 5km course that one can walk or run, and every now and then there is a ‘colour station’ where one is pelted with powdered paints of various colours (they do wash out of hair and clothing) and so end up looking somewhat like a rainbow – hence the name.

The course took participants from home to the end of Frost Street near the game reserve where there was yellow, up Longhill Street for the green and into Cedarberg Road where orange awaited. From there it was up into Tafelberg Road where they were bombarded with pink, into Hangklip Road for the blue and ending with a last lap down Kingsway where purple awaited before they returned to Madeira for a cool drink and popcorn.

There were no winners or prizes which just added to the fun and all went home for a shower and a promise to be back again next year.
