A SECOND half goal was enough to hand Valgas FC a narrow 1-0 win over Drifta Stars during the SAB League encounter at the Dumpy Adams Sport Field last week. This was the fourth week of the first season of the league and Stars were in control in the opening stages of the game but poor finishing resulted in their second consecutive defeat.
Valgas Siyabonga Landelo was kept on close watch by Difra defenders as the young striker made numerous attempts towards the goalposts. Landelo thought he was in for a golden opportunity when he only had the keeper to beat but his run was ruled for an offside by the referee. The teams exchanged corner kicks and free kicks before going to half time still locked on 0-0.
Valgas made their first substitution at the start of the second half through left winger Envor Geduld whose fresh legs in the field helped his team be in control of the game. Valgas were finally rewarded for their goal scoring efforts when Gedult received a through pass from his mid-fielders. He wasted no time in putting the ball behind the net to record the only goal of the match.
In other SAB league games, MK Academy beat Holy Kings by 2-0 while Love and Peace lost to Amathole by 2-0. Mighty Bucks and Cosmos played to a 1-1 draw. Tomorrow Valgas will be hoping to stretch their top-of-the-league lead when they battle with Love and Peace in Sterkstroom. Difra Stars will play Mighty Cosmos in Molteno and Mighty Bucs will face against MK Academy while Amathole will take on Holy Kings in Sada with all matches starting at 3pm.
