TEN children and a bus driver escaped unhurt after a school bus was swept away yesterday.

Police spokesman Captain Laraine Jonker said the police received notification that a white Mercedes Benz bus was floating down a river near the Dennan low water bridge, 40km outside Cradock, shortly before 4pm.

The bus was carrying 10 school children below the age of 10.

The driver said he had been crossing the low water bridge when the river came down.

Search and rescue services attended to the scene. No injuries were reported and an accident report has been opened.
