Soccer star on the rise

AN EZIBELENI soccer player who was signed by Chippa United’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) side last year after his outstanding performance at the inaugural Gwiliza Foundation-sponsored Easter tournament, has been given the opportunity to play in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The Rep reported (“Ezibeleni youths in the Chippa squads,” April 8 2016) that Luvuyo “Lava” Mbanjana was spotted by Chippa management during the tournament which was won by Mbanjana’s team, Madrid.

At the time, Luvo Gwiliza of the Gwiliza Foundation said the main goal was youth development through sport. The foundation wanted the youth to know sport partnered with education.

“Even if they do not play professionally, they will be exposed to opportunities,” he said at the time. This week, Ezibeleni Development Agency head of communications Solly Baliso said Mbanjana started training with the senior side on Monday. Mbanjana is on trial to play in the PSL if he impresses the coaches at the Port Elizabeth-based side.

Gwiliza Foundation sponsored Mbanjana with soccer boots and sneakers after hearing about the trials.

“We trust he will do great things and represent not only his family, but the entire community of Ezibeleni as well.”
