TWO young women gave of their time and money and bought food to feed pupils from Khayalethemba Special Care Centre recently.
Thandokazi Klaas, 22, and Noluthando Tyobeka, 23, used their pocket money to put smiles on the faces of teachers and pupils at the centre.
“We noticed that these children come from different backgrounds. “One comes with a full lunchbox and the other doesn’t bring one at all,” said Tyobeka.
The centre takes care of people with disabilities. The pupils range from 12 to 33 years of age.
Manager Nomatile Mokoena, said she was overwhelmed by the gesture.
“It is rare to see young people spend their time and money to help. “People do donate food to our centre and we also get funds from stakeholders, but it’s not enough.”
Klaas said they wanted to show empathy and care for the pupils.
Both women thanked the teachers and encouraged them to continue doing the sterling work of taking care of the pupils, which, Klaas said, “is not an easy job”.
“The centre is on the verge of closing down as it is located in an unsafe area and the pupils will be moved to Ezibeleni, which will lead to the teachers losing their jobs,” Mokoena said.
