THE Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) of the Eastern Cape has announced that it will visit the Komani police station on Friday to find out how its members can assist in supporting victims of gender-based violence over the festive period.
In a statement today, Celest Barker of DAWN said it was a sad reality that gender-based violence, rape and femicide showed an increase over the festive period.
She said the visit would aim to find out how DAWN could help the SAPS during this time.
“We will do whatever it takes to offer the women of the Eastern Cape a ladder of opportunity to climb up and away from a fear-based society. Too many South African women have suffered in silence for too long. Let’s work together this holiday to protect vulnerable women and children.”
