SUNBURN is not only painful, it is also extremely dangerous.
This time of year, when people are on holiday and out on the beach or relaxing with friends and family in the outdoors, the sun can be considered as a foe with devastating powers. Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers and in South Africa with our outdoor lifestyle, it is a real risk.
A good hat, sunscreen (with a high protection factor) and lots of liquids will help, but should you suffer from sunburn anyway, there are some home remedies that can help. Just remember, some cases of sunburn might need medical intervention so make sure you seek help if this seems to be the case.
Home remedies include taking a cool shower or bath and adding some lavendar or chamomile to the water to get rid of the stinging. You can also try adding some baking soda to the bath to help ease with the symptoms of sunburn.
And then…well, either stay out of the sun from about 10am to 4pm or make sure that you take the necessary precautions. Enjoy the holidays!
