Only eight days for traders to renew liquor licenses

THE Eastern Cape Liquor Board has warned traders that they only have eight days left for all liquor traders who have not yet renewed their liquor licenses to renew their licenses.

Deregistration may loom for those who have not done so by February 28.

In a statement today, ECLB said it wishes to commend those liquor traders that had so far taken it upon themselves to ensure that they complied with conditions of their liquor licenses and promptly renewed their liquor licenses.

“It is pleasing to note that more than 80% have already renewed their liquor licenses.

“An unfortunate implication for liquor traders who fail to renew their licenses by 28 February 2018, is that their liquor outlets will be deregistered and should they wish to trade again, they will be expected to re-apply for a new liquor license. This simply means that they will be forced to close down their businesses and go through the rigorous liquor license application process.”

The Board indicated that communities should take note and report any liquor outlet that continued to trade without a valid liquor license, reporting such offences to the nearest police stations or the Eastern Cape Liquor Board at 080 000 0420.

“It is a legislative requirement that a liquor license must be visibly displayed at each liquor outlet so that people can be in a position to see it and be able to identify if it has been renewed.”
