THE Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) has indicated that its main waste water treatment works in Komani were vandalised last night.
CHDM spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo said thieves accessed the pump station through the roof and cut and stole cables.
“Currently the plant is not functioning fully, resulting in a sewage spillage.”
Mqamelo said a service provider had been sourced to assess the damage and replace the stolen cables.
This, she said, would be followed by the treatment of the areas affected by the spillage.
“We regret this occurence and we will do our utmost best to speed up repairs.”
