EC DAM LEVELS DROP

According to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) the Eastern Cape average dam storage levels dropped marginally this week from last week’s measurement of 68.5 %, to 68. 2%.

DWS stressed the effects of the drought on major dams in the province such as the Kouga Dam and Impofu Dam in the Nelson Mandela Metro.

The Kouga Dam level this week was at 8. 9%, compared to last year’s 22. 3%. Impofu Dam is standing at 34. 1%, compared to 65.2% during this time last year.

This week the Algoa system level is at 21. 9% compared to 39% during this time last year. This is a huge drop of 17.1% because of drought consequences. The Amatole system is at an average of 91 .9%, compared to last year’s 92, 0%, a decline of 0. 1%.
