CHDM ready to ensure water supply sustained

THE Chris Hani District Municipality has indicated that it is using its back-up generators  at full tilt to ensure that the water supply was not interrupted, but that low water pressure was being experienced in some areas.

CHDM spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo said CHDM had “pulled all stops to ensure its readiness for any eventuality – we have stocked up on diesel for our generators to ensure they run uninterrupted for the duration of the electricity outage.”

She said water carts were on stand-by with a loud hailing system in place “should a need for urgent messaging arise.  We are closely monitoring the situation and so far no related incidents have been noted.”

Four heavy duty generators, in varied sizes, had been purchased intended for use at the  treatment plants.

“We still encourage the community to use our Customer Care line 0800100100 to report any water and sanitation related matters. ”
