World Environment Day tackles plastic use

CHRIS Hani District Municipality (CHDM) joined this year’s World Environment Day awareness campaign of exploring sustainable alternatives of reducing the production and usage of plastic which polluted rivers, threatened water life, animals and human health.

The World Environment Day was launched by the United Nations in 1976 to encouragee people to take action in bringing about a healthy environment.

CHDM celebrated the day in the Intsika Yethu Municipality where Mahlubini Junior Secondary School was encouraged to recycle glass, paper and plastic at the Cofimvaba Stadium on Tuesday.

Government, businesses, communities and individuals were also called to join the cause.
