PORT Elizabeth rapist, 28-year-old Kwanele Jack Kilana (28) has been sentenced to three life sentences in the High Court.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Kilana was found guilty on 11 counts on two different cases stretching from rape, aggravated robbery to housebreaking among others. On July 5 last year at about 6pm, a 27-year-old woman was walking through the park behind Greenacres Village when the accused passed her. As she turned around, she noticed him coming towards her with a knife. He threatened her and ordered her to undress. She was also slapped in the face as he robbed her of her possessions.
Kilana was not arrested at the time but linked through DNA at a later stage. He was sentenced to double life imprisonment on two counts of rape and 15 years imprisonment for aggravated robbery. The life sentence will run concurrent with the other life sentence.
In October last year, he raped two students at the Second Avenue campus of the Nelson Mandela University. He was sentenced to three years for housebreaking, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 18 months for attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances, 10 years on two counts of compelled sexual assault, three years for sexual assault and two life prison terms.
Effectively he will serve three life terms and 47,6 years in prison. He was linked to both cases through DNA and positive identification by the victims.
