Six remain in custody after Stutterheim unrest

Six suspects remain in custody after unrest related to service delivery complaints in Stutterheim earlier this week.

Seventeen suspects were arrested on Thursday for public violence and malicious damage to property following protests in Mlungisi. At 1pm yesterday a truck carrying juice was set alight by protesters.

No injuries have been reported.

In a statement earlier today, police spokesman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said some suspects had been released but six remained in custody.

They were set to appear in the Stutterheim Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
