‘Municipal building burns if lights are not on tonight’ – Van residents

Van area residents have threatened to burn the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality budget and treasury building tonight if lights are not back on by sunset.

Lights were cut off in the area early today due to accounts that were in arrears.

The residents who marched to the building were attended to by mayoral committee member Noluthando Nqabisa who promised lights would be switched back on and no further cuts would happen until “data cleansing” was completed by the municipality.

Residents also put forward a list of other demands to be met by the municipality. Failure to do so would lead to more strike action. Read full story in The Rep on Friday.
