The Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) has conveyed its condolences to the family of two patients who died during a tragic car accident while they were enroute to Frontier Hospital in Komani today.
According to the departments spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo the accident occurred when the ambulance that was rushing the two patients who cannot be named at this stage, collided head on with another vehicle on R61 road between Cofimvaba and Komani.
“The patients were being referred from Cofimvaba hospital to Frontier Regional hospital when the accident occurred.
“The department would like to confirm that both patients on board the ambulance died instantly. the crew members, a male and a female sustained serious injuries and jaws of life had to be used to free them from the wreckage,” Kupelo said.
He said the other person, also a government employee who was driving a department of rural development and agrarian reform (DRDAR) vehicle is in critical condition.
“The department wishes to send its heartfelt condolences and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” he said.
