This tournament is the brainchild of the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
The annual showpiece is usually the perfect pre-season tournament, which can lead to greater things in each team’s domestic season.
The lucrative tournament attracts a lot of interest – with the winner walking away with a hefty prize and trophy.
All 12 teams receive kit and are guaranteed a sum of money before they have even kicked a ball. The teams are divided into two streams with representation of three teams per union.
Group A: Breakers, Cambridge, Swallows, Gardens, Park and Spring Rose. Group B: Buffaloes, East London Police, Walter Sisulu All Blacks, Despatch, PE Harlequins and Progress.
Komani will be represented by Breakers in this money-spinning tournament. The tournament starts on January 21 with the final to be played on March 11. The first round is a round-robin format. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals.
Breakers kick-start their campaign against Cambridge at Mlungisi Stadium, then follow that up with a clash against Gardens away in Uitenhage. The local side then welcome Parks, after which they travel to Port Elizabeth to play Spring Rose before ending with a match against Swallows.
