Young people make a difference in the community

SANGO Gcaleka Legacy members, Athenkosi Tabo and Lamela Bambalaza, are two young men with a vision of making a difference to the Newvale community.

The duo has started on their vision by helping primary school children in the residential area with their homework.

The Rep reported (“Showing children the right way” August 25 2017) that Tabo and Bambalaza had started a non profit organisation which aims to boost the education of children aged between six and 14.

Showing children the right way

Tabo and Bambalaza recently visited their school, the South African Academy of Applied Competence (SAAAC), to thank them for donating stationery to their organisation.

“We are so grateful. What we got from our school is going to make a huge difference, as these children do not have enough resources for school.”

Tabo said the dream was to have a building to accommodate the children benefitting from the project. About 30 children are currently being assisted.

“We are currently using someone’s house, and the only way we could do that is by raising funds which are currently doing,” said Bambalaza.

They will be hosting a soccer tourney, Crime Stop 911, tomorrow at the Dumpy Adams stadium in Victoria Park, with the entrance fee R700 per team. Money will go towards planned construction costs.

Bambalaza said money would also be used to feed the children, with a vegetable garden having been started to teach the children about nutrition.

The first prize at the tourney is soccer kit and a sheep, the second prize medals and a sheep and the third prize a sheep. Further information can be obtained from Bambalaza on 072-140-2119 or email him on lulamelabambalaza@gmail.co.za.
