TWO female employees of Checkers recently arrested for allegedly defrauding the company of hundreds of thousands of rands remain in police custody as their formal bail application is still to be heard.
Viwe Nkwintya, 31, and Judith Bopane, 32, were arrested two weeks ago.
The Rep reported (“Two employees held for alleged money market fraud,” May 20) that police spokesman lieutenant Namhla Mdleleni said the two were suspected of keeping money people had deposited in Money Market for themselves.
She said Checkers had been monitoring them since November last year.
Nkwintya and Bopane appeared before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on May 16 with the case postponed to May 23 for further investigation. Shoprite corporate communications manager Sarita van Wyk previously refused to comment saying the store did not comment on issues before a court of law.
The case was again postponed to June 3 for a formal bail application.
