FEMALE boxers from the Chris Hani District received a boost, courtesy of the department of sport, recreation arts and culture (DSRAC), on Friday.

DSRAC MEC Pemmy Majodina handed over boxing kit to female boxers during a tournament to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the women’s march to the Union Buildings.

The tournament took place at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sport Complex last Friday.

“This is women’s month and we know that the strongest areas in boxing are in East London and Komani. We are here to acknowledge women who are passionate about boxing,” Majodina said.

Chris Hani amateur boxing organiser Mabhuti Mapeyi said he was approached by DSRAC to organise a small tournament for girls.

“We called in boxers from Xhalanga boxing club from Cala, we have two boxers from Komani and two from Whittlesea.”

He welcomed the kit for the boxers.
