POET and afro soul artist Lisakhanya Qinisile, also known as EmmzaQue, has released a single track titled Can I follow you.
The Lukhanji FM Sunday jazz show presenter said he had stopped singing after high school to focus on things other than music, “but I continued writing and reciting poetry at local events every now and then”.
The release of the single was inspired in April after he recited a poem called Rivers at a church thanksgiving service.
“People were impressed with my talent and this made me want to do something about my poetry. I did not want to compile it as an afro soul or pop song. I wanted to do something different so I thought about trap, which is a modern hip hop genre. I chose this route because people do not expect poetry to be mixed with hip hop.”
He said he was joined by other local artists Master Leo, also known as Lonwabo Nqevu, Myameko Hlala, aka Enzo, and Musa, aka Mou.
“The song is about a man who is in love with a woman whom he believes is the one, but things do not work out in the end. My poem is about showing my appreciation for her without blaming anyone for the breakup.”
