STUTTERHEIM – Last weekend the Stutterheim Amateur Dramatic Society presented a musical medley entitled “Be Our Guest”. The show, produced and directed by Sharon Parker, was subtitled “A Disney and Co Extravaganza”.
This was a family show for participants and audience. During one of the songs the stage was deliberately set in family groupings of Coetzee, Harris, Ford and Featherstone families. At times there were over 90 performers acting, singing and dancing on stage.
The songs featured in the show were all taken from Disney musicals. Some of those which stood out were “Hakuna Matata” and “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin and “Let it go” from Frozen.
Special mention should be made of our local apothecary, Taki Kyriacos and his young protégé, Riley Hansel in their Baloo the Bear and Mowgli song “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book. Among the adult soloists Pieter Roussouw and Sharon Parker stood out while among the children Meg Cooper sang beautifully and Joshua Coetzee acted well as the crab in “Under the Sea”.
The show performed to two full houses which was fitting considering the time and effort put in by Sharon Parker, all the performers (adults and children) and the parents. The logistical considerations of having such a large cast must have been formidable.
