YANELISA Bokveld was crowned Miss Queenstown in a pageant hosted by the Komani-based Event Architects last month.
Originally from Qoqodala, 17-year-old Bokveld said she was proud to have represented her former school, Dordrecht High School, with distinction.
“I have not participated in beauty pageants before and I had to research, watch videos on the internet to get tips and practise in front of the mirror in my bedroom to prepare myself. My mother was my support system throughout the whole process – she is my number one fan.”
Bokveld, who matriculated last year, will be pursuing a degree in hospitality at the Tshwane University of Technology.
“Since the pageant took place in December, I will be involved in community service starting this month. I want to do motivational talks at local schools and also to get involved in charity work,” she said.
She believes that education is the key to ensure a successful career path.
“Winning this pageant is about inspiring and touching people’s lives, especially those of young girls.”
Event Architects is an event organiser based in Komani with eight participants vying for the crown in last year’s pageant.
Bokveld received a R500 photo voucher as her prize.
Event Architects CEO, Kamvelihle Matyila, said the pageant was a great success.
