Full field at GHS annual golf day

EAGLE EYES: Christopher Stander eagerly watches the ball during the GHS golf day.

A TOTAL of 133 golfers took to the greens in the Girls’ High School golf day at the golf club in Komani under sunny skies on Saturday. Eight novice golfers took on the nine hole version of the competition and the betterball pairing of Kirsty Watson and Chanelle Bredenkamp came up trumps with 22 points.

The remainder of the golfers competed in the main event, which was won by Christie Miles and Landi Boucher in what Queenstown Golf Club captain Cor Oosthuizen described as a magnificent and unheard-of record of 65 betterball points.“Boucher played her best round ever.”

Oosthuizen said the pairing of Dale Manthe and Jacques Olivier had to settle for second place on 51 points, while juniors David Schonken and Gerhard Cloete were also in the main prizes. The field prizes went to the sharp shooters with closest to the pin on the 5th being Rix Quwe, while the rest went to Danie Nel (8th), Michael Saleni (11th) and Kiran Malik (16th).

The long-hitter prizes went to Andrew Taggart in the men’s division. In the U13 division Gerhard Cloete managed to outdrive Kerrith Hartley. This weekend, the two-ball combined Stableford competition is taking place with the course in good condition.
