SPENDTHRIFT of Komani writes: The headline of the Editorial Opinion in last week’s The Rep sums it up perfectly, “In for a rough ride” describing the Enoch Mgijima council’s financial mess. … and yet they can spend more than R100-million on cars!
What is more, the portfolio head, Madoda Papiyane said, “The budget for the cars was approved by council” and speaker Mzoxolo Peter added, “The law made provision for that”.
Surely you can only budget for cars if you have the money to buy them after you have done what is essential (like fixing roads and so on)?
And Mr Peter, if a man buys diamonds he is not breaking any law, but is it morally right for him to do so and then tell his children that he has no money for food?
