Oosthuizen is tops

DURING the past weekend the Queenstown Golf Club hosted the first round of the monthly medal and stableford competition with a wet course ensuring that the results were predictably lower than normal with only the winner breaking the 70s nett score, writes Cor Oosthuizen.
Angela Oosthuizen beat the field on a well-played 85 gross (69 nett) score, obtaining the first 10 points on the order of merit list. In second place Michelle Mitchell scored 90 gross (74 nett), while Aubrey Ferreira (the only male participant in the top three) shot a 91 gross (75 nett) to take the last place on the podium.
In the individual stableford points competition, Angela maintained the first place with 39 points while Aubrey Ferreira and Johnny de Villiers, both on 34 points, took second and third respectively. Marc Bradley ensured his semifinal spot in the Joplin Randall matchplay competition by beating Job Gobizembe in the last of the quarterfinal matches. His opponent in the semifinal match is the greenskeeper, Dougie Rheeders.
Another qualifier will take place for the Windhoek International Pairs competition this weekend, while the Friends of Madeira fundraiser will take place on the weekend of February 18.
On Sunday the club hosted the Border junior golf tournament with 39 juniors from the Border region taking part. The A-division of the juniors was won by Daniel Seumeren on 75 gross with Damian Osner in second place with 79 gross.
The B-division was a closely- contested affair with both Sikholiwe Thumani (first) and Gabriel de Jongh (second) scoring 82 gross. The junior women’s section was won by Kiara Koekemoer (82 gross) with Charleze Stotter in second and Kerrith Hartley in third place.
