THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPLs suffered a legal defeat when the Bhisho High Court dismissed, with costs, the party’s urgent application which sought to get the court to rule a dress code adopted in 2015 as unconstitutional.
In a statement, the legislature said speaker Noxolo Kiviet noted and welcomed the order. The statement said the EFF served papers on an urgent basis to the legislature on Wednesday after midday and expected “the court would rule that the dress code adopted in 2015 is unconstitutional”.
“(Kiviet) notes and welcomes the order… which struck off the roll with costs an ‘urgent’ application brought by the EFF,” the statement said. The matter was heard by the Bhisho High Court in less that 28 hours. The EFF had brought this application despite the policy (on dress code) having been applicable since 2015 and being complied with by all MPLs.
