ARE you up to the Madeira Run on March 18? If not, it’s time to don your running shoes and do some training.
Runners will start from the Harriers Club in Frost Street, heading in a north-westerly direction.
A short section of dirt then the runners join the N6, veering onto the mountain road at the 7km mark towards the turning point of the 16km race.
The 24km runners will embark on a winding 4km challenge to the top of Madeira, a demanding but scenic route.
Walkers are welcome on the 16km route but no prize money will be allocated.
Cold drinks and water will be available every three kilometres and at the end, with all runners receiving medals.
The first three men and women in each race will receive money prize.
The first man and woman to reach the top of Madeira, and finish the race, will be awarded the king and queen of the mountain cash prize.
The 24km race offers R500 to the first woman and the first man who improve the record time. Age category prizes are also on offer.
Entry and registration will be held at the Harriers Club from 5.30pm to 7pm on March 17, and from 5am to 5.50am on the day of the race. Entry forms are available at sport shops in Komani and Harriers Club in the evenings. The entry fee is R50 for the 16km race and R80 for the 24km race.
Temporary licence numbers are available at R30 upon registration.
The race starts at 6am, with prizegiving at 10.30am. Inquiries, Theo Ferreira on 082-873-4597.
