THE Komani police have warned residents not to walk alone in open veld after the find of a woman’s body near The Homestead over the weekend.
The identity of the woman was at first not known but she has since been identified.
In a statement, police spokesman Captain Namhla Mdleleni warned residents to be alert when walking in open veld or desolate areas, but denied speculation of a serial killer operating in the area – a rumour that was trending on social media sites in the area this morning.
The areas of Komani Park, Laurie Dashwood and Queensview Park have been identified as hot spots.
Police said residents often used nearby veld as a short cut from Mlungisi towards Ezibeleni and Queendustria and have warned people not to do so, saying these shortcuts – and others where people walk through open veld – must be considered as dangerous.
Early dusk and dawn have also been highlighted as dangerous times.
