Finance head resigns

KOMANI TOWN HALL

ENOCH Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) has once again lost a senior official in a critical position – this time the chief financial officer (CFO) Nomthandazo Ntshanga – making it the fourth resignation since the beginning of the year.

The Rep has had it confirmed that Ntshanga recently resigned from the municipality and is serving her notice.

Ntshanga turned the fortunes of the former Lukhanji Municipality around when she came on board after the municipality had received five consecutive disclaimers from the auditor-general.

The municipality has been receiving qualified audit outcomes since her arrival.

However, Ntshanga’s time as CFO has not been smooth sailing as she was implicated in wrongdoing in King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality soon after joining Lukhanji in 2015 from KSD.

The Daily Dispatch reported (“KSD and ORT officials to appear before Thuli”, April 14 2015) that Ntshanga and other officials were subpoenaed before former public protector Thuli Madonsela. This was in relation to the spending of more than R21-million on the funeral of late former statesman Nelson Mandela without council approval.

The outcome of these proceedings is not yet known.

This week, EMLM communications manager Fundile Feketshane confirmed the resignation, saying it would be tabled before council.

“We will after [a] council [meeting] convene a special briefing session and you will be invited to come and partake.”

The Rep has since been informed Ntshanga has found a job with a municipality closer to her family.

A reliable source told The Rep Ntshanga would be joining the Amathole District Municipality, but this could not be confirmed at the time of going to press.
