The interview was organised by local author Mcebisi ka Ndama whose book, My True Confessions, is set to be filmed (“Author’s story soon a movie”, The Rep, March 17). Ka Ndama, who was moved by Zamathusi ‘s life story, convinced her to write the book.

The book is about the struggles of a poor woman who wanted to make it in life but was diverted by a man who married her at a tender age without sharing her vision.

Zamathusi said she had four children and financial problems obstructed her in her quest to achieve financial independence. Her situation worsened as her marriage ended.

“Twala was blown away by my book’s topic and the dialogue. I gave listeners a brief background of my story. She asked about the struggles of trying to balance working part-time and being a mother and of how my marriage hit rock bottom.”

She said she hoped to reach out to a large number of women to encourage them to invest in things that would pay off in the future.

“Time is valuable and precious. If you plan to be a mother you must study and do everything necessary before you have children.

“That is what I had in mind – before I got married I wanted to finish school, get a qualification, seek employment and then have children.

“ I met a person who did not think the same.”

She said a lack of finance, motivation and support, as well as discouragement and the absence of proper guidance, often resulted in women not achieving their goals.

After the show, Zamathusi was invited to speak at a marriage seminar at Grace Worship Centre in Bloemfontein.

This, she said, was a good platform for her to raise funds in order to get her script published.

“The church is planning to have me speak again to enlighten people about relationships.

“I will be talking about taboo issues couples do not often discuss on their way to marriage.”
