TUBERCULOSIS remains the biggest killer in South Africa with the Eastern Cape Department of Health set to host a provincial TB commemoration at Gompo Hall, Duncan Village in East London today.
The Premier of the Eastern Cape Phumulo Masualle and MEC for Health Dr Pumza Dyantyi will visit three households in Duncan Village as part of the TB dialogues which will highlight key challenges, increase the levels of awareness in communities, educate the public about the dangers of TB and assess progress made in responding to the epidemic.
The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is playing host to the provincial commemoration because of its high death rate among TB drug resistant patients. The key hotspots in the Buffalo City Metro are Fort Grey, Ginsberg, Potsdam in Mdantsane and Berlin.
Masualle will also donate a R450 000 cheque to the Duncan Village Day Care Centre in order for the Centre to purchase medical equipment. The generous donation comes from the German government through the province’s Twinning agreement with Lower – Saxony.
