IF POLITICAL leadership at the Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) stick to the values and principles of the late ANC and SACP leader, Tembisile Chris Hani, the district authority will be serving the people for whom Hani fought.

This was said by CHDM executive mayor, Kholiswa Vimbayo, at a press briefing to outline the programmes the municipality will embark on as it marks the 24th commemoration of Hani’s assassination.

In 2008, the council adopted a resolution to celebrate April as Chris Hani month and showcase service delivery.

“These activities take the form of showcasing service delivery initiatives as part of encouraging community interaction; education and creating awareness on the significance of the liberation struggle and liberation icons and to promote social cohesion. Importantly, this revives our commitment to the values of Chris Hani.”

Such values were commitment, humanity, respect, integrity, sincerity, honesty, accountability, nurturing and innovation.

As Hani was laid to rest at the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan, Gauteng, CHDM has reviewed its agreement with the metro to reinforce a partnership that facilitated collaboration on specific areas such as skills development and exchange visits during April.

In this regard, a delegation from the CHDM would be joining Ekurhuleni Metropolitan this week for the commemoration.

“We have a programme for the month and we enlist a partnership with the media as our key stakeholder to participate in all our activities. “As the eyes and ears of our society you can play a meaningful role in ensuring that we reach a wide audience as we honour a giant, a selfless cadre of the movement and a son of the soil.”
