KOMANI filmmaker Cumani Maneli is producing a series, titled Mabona, based on fictional characters living in Komani.
Maneli said this week the story was about a former inmate who was imprisoned for a planned heist that went wrong.
“Now out on parole, he plans to rectify the mistakes he made. Unfortunately his plans are interrupted by his father who is one of the people he blames for his capture.”

A total of 22 actors are involved in the series, including South African boxer Xolani Kemka and aspiring actress Anathi Nokhonya.
“I am mainly using people from Komani and surrounding areas. Most of us are inexperienced when it comes to the film and television industry.”
Nokhonya was previously an extra in Generations.
Maneli said the actors’ parents have assisted with the project.
“My mother and the members of her church came on board, while community builders like Mzwandile Ngondo and Tsepo Moerane also joined it.”
One camera was used to film the series.
Moerane said he thought of the series as a great opportunity to promote Komani in the tourism sector.
