LOCAL farmers from the Enoch Mgijima Municipality will converge at the Abambo Agricultural School in Mchewula village outside Komani for an agricultural show next week. The show will take place from May 23 to 25.Organising committee member Dr Langaliyakhanya Mlanjeni said the event was aimed at reviving agriculture among local people.
“We invite everyone who has an interest in farming. We will be showcasing livestock and crops and we want everyone who can come and share knowledge with farmers.”
He said there was an urgent need to get youth in rural communities involved in farming. “We are promoting agriculture and its industry at large. We must engage the youth and encourage them to be job creators and not to job seekers.”
“Even if you are in any sector in life, engineering or mechanics, you still expect to eat food which is made by people who are in farming.” He said the country needed to go back to exporting food. ”We do not want to depend on imports for food, we want to produce more and export food like in the past.”
