Science whiz-kid? Head for Grahamstown!

Organisers of the South African National science festival (Scifest Africa) that brought you a science journey of a lifetime earlier this year are at it again to bring the Regional final of South Africa’s leading national science fair.

The Eskom Expo for Yong Scientists Regional Final, which is sponsored by Eskom, Rhodes University and local businesses, will be taking place on August 5 at the Rhodes University in Grahamstown Eastern Cape.

“This project aims to inspire and develop a deep understanding of young scientists to identify a problem, analyse information and find solutions and ways to communicate their findings,” says Scifest Africa Manager, Pumza Tshebe. “This year fantastic prizes, including five scholarships for the first year of study in the fields of science at Rhodes University, trophies, medals and book prizes are up for grabs.”

The fair affords learners the opportunity to enter a project to exhibit their own scientific investigation will see the best projects participating in the international science fair in Pretoria in early October as well as the opportunity to represent South Africa at other international science fairs abroad.

“We are looking to see people out in their numbers to see what this year’s young innovators have got to offer,” says Tshebe.
