THE Water Affairs Department has warned that although the Eastern Cape experienced some rain in many areas on Thursday, it had not had a significant influence on dam levels in the province.

In a statement, the Department of Water and Sanitation said it was appealing to all water users to continue to use water wisely and to adhere to water restrictions where applicable. “Despite the recent rainfall in the province, the dam levels are still under pressure and the effects of drought continue in different municipalities. Drought poses a major threat to food and water security.”
The total storage of water in dams in the Eastern Cape is at 56.1%, below the 66,4% it was at last year this time.
