TWO young men, Luntu Gamlana, 21, and Loyiso Pukwana, 21, paid it forward by donating clothing to the needy in Unifound recently. They started a non-profit organisation, Gifted Hands, with the goal of giving back to the community. The two residents collected old clothes from family and friends in Victoria Park and from their own closets.
“I took the situation they live in into heart, and imagined myself living in that environment and so we decided to do this good deed for them without expecting anything in return. Some of the people are not living there by choice, but because of the situation they are in”, said Gamlana.
Gamlana is a first year at University of South Africa (Unisa) and Pukwana is a student at Varsity College in Port Elizabeth.
Pukwana said they wanted the young people of Komani to join the initiative of giving back and making a difference in the community.
“We have always had this idea in mind, and we were also motivated by the Nelson Mandela 67 minutes campaign, but the only difference is that we want to do it on a daily basis,” said Pukwana.
Anyone who is willing to donate food or clothing can contact Gamlana on 071-940 -2189 or Pukwana on 061-922-5916.
