VELD fires are currently raging in the Lady Grey and Barkly districts, police have confirmed.
Indications are that up to 32 000 hectares of veld have been destroyed with the fires being fuelled by strong wind. Several farms are affected.
It is not yet known whether any buildings have been destroyed or if livestock have been lost.
Farmers and other stakeholders are battling the blaze.
