The Eastern Cape police has indicated that the situation at the Fort Hare University in Alice was quiet this morning ahead of a management meeting scheduled for 10am.
Part of the staff centre was set alight yesterday with furniture and art works, valued at R200 000, destroyed. Police spokesman Captain Siyasanga Nontshinga said initial reports that the student centre had been set alight, were incorrect.

A student was due to appear in court today on an arson charge.
Police said the university was not closed, despite earlier reports in the media to the contrary.
