NCOP in oversight visit to Chris Hani District Municipality

DELEGATES of the National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) will today and tomorrow conduct oversight visits at the Chris Hani District Municipality.

The oversight visits follow a briefing meeting that took place at the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in Bhisho earlier this week as the NCOP delegation officially launched the week-long NCOP Provincial Week programme held nationwide to assess employment creation initiatives by various sectors of society.

The NCOP delegation groups in the respective provinces are using this opportunity to conduct oversight visits to short and long term projects and interventions such as factories, industries and expanded public works projects to assess measures in place to leverage the potential of township economies to create job   opportunities and how public and private partnerships are harnessed to open up job opportunities.

The oversight visits tomorrow by Group Three of the NCOP delegation will begin with a briefing meeting with councillors, the Eastern Cape Provincial Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, the Premier’s Office, Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA), project leaders, beneficiaries and various other stakeholders at the Ncorha Agricultural Project from 9am, followed by a visit to the Shiloh Irrigation Scheme from 10am to 11am tomorrow.
