DURING an electricity safety awareness campaign in Cofimvaba this week, Eskom shared some tips on how to handle situations which involve live electric wire cables. According to research done by the Eskom, the majority of people killed by electricity are from the rural areas due to a lack of related awareness. These are the following safety tips that can keep you and your family safe:
- Avoid using damaged cables or cords, as they can shock people and cause fires.
- Do not overload plugs – when several appliances run for too long on a single plug they can overheat and cause fire or an electrocution.
- Do not tamper with electricity meters – it is illegal to do so.
If you want to report any illegal connections or any electricity emergencies, you can contact the Eskom’s customer line on 086 003 7566.
