NOT a historical building this week, but a historical site in Komani. The Hexagon, now known as the Chris Hani Hexagon, is believed to have been established in 1852 and was meant to serve as defensive structure should the town come under attack. Six streets radiate from the Chris Hani Hexagon – Calderwood, Shepstone, Bowker, Zeiler, Robinson Road and the town’s main street, Cathcart Road.
The hexagon design which first formed the base of the town’s establishment is believed to be unique to the town.
Thank you to Deon Bester who said that although he did not take the photo, he found it in his collection of historical pics and thought he would share it with the readers of The Rep.
