Police operation results in arrests for Stutt armed robbery

FOURTEEN suspects, aged between 19 and 38, were taken into custody early today after a police operation headed by Stutterheim detectives.

The police operation followed on a business robbery at a shop in Greenfield, Kubusi Village outside Stutterheim on Monday.

Police spokesman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said two unknown men had entered the shop and robbed the owner at gunpoint.

The owner was shot in the back and is in a stable condition in hospital.

They fled with airtime and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police, acting on information from the community, arrested six men at their homes in Kubusi village and Mlungisi township.

Police received valuable information from the community about the suspects that were involved in the robbery and went to their houses at Kubusi Village and Mlungisi Township and arrested six males. One of the suspects was allegedly found with a firearm and three rounds (38 special revolver) in his possession.

The other suspects were wanted for crimes ranging from common robbery, contravention of a protection order, a warrant of arrest, theft and assault.

The suspects will appear in the Stutterheim Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Acting Cluster Commander of King Williams Town, Colonel Nomonde Mene thanked the community for sharing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
