Vehicles stuck in snow near Elliot

ABOUT 10 vehicles are struck in snow on the R58 between Elliot and Barkly East following heavy snow in the district.

The Eastern Cape police has indicated that no life-threatening incidents have however been reported but that roads have been closed.

A grader is en route to clear the road and should have arrived at the Barkly Pass at 11am.

Reports of ice on the road between Barkly East and Lady Grey hve also been received and motorists are being urged to travel at a slow pace.

Police said weather forecasts showed that snow was falling at between five to six centimeters per hour and would do so until 5pm today.

The situation was being monitored with disaster management plans in place to keep motorists safe.
