Historic buildings: twelfth in The Rep series

The buildings of Louis Rex Primary School in New Rest look much the same as when this photo, from The Rep archives, was taken in 1985.

The school has, for several years, been on the Education Department’s construction list. The latest information found on the Internet indicates a construction project of new buildings and related facilities valued at R100-million planned for the school but the starting date is not yet known.

The school is in poor condition with rotting floorboards having given way under pupils and teachers in classrooms in the past.

Alan Greaves’ book “Tell Me of Komani” indicates that the Congregational Church was believed to have started a school as the forerunner to Louis Rex Primary School in 1963.
