A sewerage system blockage in Dordrecht is receiving attention, the Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) has indicated.
A reader called The Rep to indicate concern over a blockage on the corner of Dam and Du Plessis Street which he said had been a problem for months. He said a hole had been dug nearby to work on the system but had not been filled in.
CHDM spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo said the blockage had not been pushing up for months and that staff had dug the hole to access pipes and to unblock the system. It was, however, discovered that more powerful mechanisms than the rods normally used were needed to unplug the system.
A service provider had been sourced to use a Jetting Machine to unblock the pipes with work expected to start from yesterday.
