Public transport sends 35 people to hospital this week

Third accident: A third public transport vehicle was involved in an accident this week after 13 people were injured and rushed to Frontier Hospital yesterday.

Police spokesperson captain Namhla Mdleleni said that a minibus from Johannesburg overturned on the N6 near Lessyton at about 06:30.

“Two passengers were seriously injured  while 11 passengers had minor injuries, but they are still in hospital. Police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving,” Mdleleni said.

On Monday this week The Rep reported, “Nine seriously injured in accident,” and on Tuesday The Rep reported, “15 minibus passengers rushed to Frontier.”

One of the minibuses that collided on Tuesday was also coming from Johannesburg. Mdleleni pleaded with motorists to drive carefully during this festive season.

Mdleleni said, “Police appeal to motorists to drive safely after four accidents occurred within a month along N6.

“Drivers carrying passengrs from Cape Town and Johannesburg, we request that they get enough rest when they embark on long distance trips and they must properly check their vehicles if they are in a good condition.”            Picture: SIMTEMBILE MGIDI
